When it comes to the cost of Siding there are many variables to consider. First and Most in portant is the type of siding you are going to have installed on your home. There are 5 main types of siding installed in Indiana. These 5 different types are Vinyl Siding, Wood Composite, Fiber Cement or James Hardie, Cedar or Wood Siding and last Stucco. These are in order of price from lowest to highest
When choosing Vinyl siding the main thing to consider is the thickness of vinyl siding. They typically range from .038” to .050” in thickness. The average cost of Vinyl Siding ranges from $350 to $1,200 per 10’ x 10’ area.
Wood composite which is typically known as LP is made of OSB with paper glued to the front. This siding is not recommended due to past class action lawsuits because the product can not handle the free thaw cycle in Indiana well enough to last for a long time. The average cost of LP Smart Side or Wood Composite Siding is $600 to $1,500 per 10’ x 10’ area.
Fiber Cement or James Hardie Siding
The number 1 siding in America and the best option when replacing your siding is Fiber Cement or James Hardie Siding. It is made of all natural materials and holds up the best to the change of temperature and ability to handle the freeze thaw cycle. It is the only siding sold in Indiana that is designed for the climate we live in. It is also Class 4 hail rated and has a class A fire rating. The average cost to install James Hardie Siding is $700 – $2,200 per 10’ x 10’ area.
Cedar or Wood Siding
In the past Cedar or Wood Siding has been revered as a great siding but over the years the price of the diminishing natural resource has increased while quality has gone down. Cedar is somewhat impact resistant but is susceptible to rotting, warping, wood peckers, bugs and temites. The average cost to install Cedar or Wood Siding is $800 to $2,500 per 10’ x 10’ area.
Stucco is one of the least common sidings found in the region and is also the most expensive. It has a great look but can have problems. Also wood peckers are attracted to the stucco. When stucco cracks it typically needs to be replaced and can be costly. On average Stucco costs $1,000 – $3,500 per 10’ x 10’ area.
